There is a crazy for ‘Grand Father’ wall clock with pendulum. They were mechanical clocks spring loaded and hand wound. They are still found in many houses as antique pieces. I am anxious to know whether they are still manufactured ? Because electronic watches have long back replaced them.

yes they are available, but it is very rare.
you can get it from an antique shop.

No not all carriage clocks chime and the ones that do chime comes with different chimming options like westminister or bim bam are some of the popular chimes and most have night volume so they will not disturb you at night if you are not use to them.

I read it for a class and now I have to write a research paper on it and it requires me to know what the mantle clock represents but I cannot find even where they mention a mantle clock.

I’m not sure what it means, but when Gatsby and Daisy meet again for the first time in years, in Nick’s cottage, Gatsby nearly knocks the mantle clock off of the mantle, but catches it before it falls. Perhaps Fitzgerald was referring to time lost, or almost lost, or something like that.

Fitzgerald didn’t put anything in the story that wasn’t meant to be there, there is so much symbolism.

An anniversary clock is one of those glass domed clocks with the rotating pendulums that used to be so ubiquitous in old peoples homes when I was a kid. My parents have one from when they were first married.

It is called an anniversary clock because it only has to be wound once a year… thus, you can always wind it up on your anniversary. The new ones defeat the purpose because they are quartz movement and run on batteries… thus, retardedly, don’t need to be wound…

Only if you write out why you wanted her to have it. Be romantic. It’s a sure winner!

One of my favorite tunes, I based my version on one by Leonard Kwan. This performance was at Don Quixote’s in Felton, CA, where I was opening for Ledward Kaapana on Sept. 10, 2007.

Sorry for the sound quality, this was recorded using the camera mic rather than a board feed.

I got this clock off ebay when I saw it. I wanted a no wind, weight driven pendulum clock with westminster chime and chime shut off feature and this clock has it all. I found many clocks that run on battery; have fake weights for show and pre-recorded chime sounds and battery run movement and pendulum. I didn’t want that at all, I love the traditional clocks and this clock, although new, is what I’ve wanted for some time now. It’s cute, pretty good in size and the chimes sound beautiful.

An unusual and very good quality clock by Japy Freres. It is large and heavy, well modelled with fine detail and features the desirable cream and blue dial. See more on our website http://www.Dragon-Antiques.com

What you see is about 25% of the completed clock movement in terms of parts count, about 2000 of a total of 8000 parts. This project has been in construction for about 1.5 years and has another 2 to go. Much of the most difficult subassemblies are done as the going train contained a large amount of novel mechanical concepts: dual remontoire mediated by differential, dual escape wheels, compound fly fans, compound going barrels. The going train contains nearly 60 wheels. All pivots in the going train are jewelled in chatons. The rest of the pivots will have jewelled pivots for a total of 450 jewelled pivots (exception being the going barrels because of the large weight, these will be in caged roller bearings) . All ferrous parts are stainless steel and all brass will eventually be plated in two tones of gold.

This project was conceived in 2003 and will be completed in 2011 or 2012. We are not trying to make the most complicated clock, there are many in the last 200 years that beat this project by a wide margin, but we hope to make a mark in the area of fascination in terms of movement. Also the quality of fabrication will be next to none. You can follow the project on my web site: www.my-time-machines.net. or email me at: mfrank1@rcn.com

The Corpus Clock has been invented and designed by Dr John Taylor for Corpus Christi College Cambridge for the exterior of the college’s new library building.

It will be unveiled on 19 September by Prof Stephen Hawking, cosmologist and author of the global bestseller, A Brief History of Time.

The £1 million timepiece, known as The Corpus Clock, has been commissioned and designed to honour the John Harrison, who was famously the pioneer of Longitude and inventor of the esoteric clock mechanism known as a grasshopper escapement.

The clock has been designed by the inventor and horologist Dr John Taylor and makes ingenious use of the grasshopper escapement, moving it from the inside of the clock to the outside and refashioning it as a Chronophage, or time-eater, which literally devours time.
