Not to sound wierd but,
i was thinking ive had the same AAA battery in my wall clock for like 2 and a half years now….and its still working

what makes them last so long

Electrical appliances use energy at different rates. clocks are one of the appliances that use the least energy. so batteries in a clock will last much longer than batteries in a walkman or camera or other appliances that use more energy.

The clocks are the same, except the ones known as
carriage clocks featured a handle on top, and were originally used as travel clocks. These clocks often sit on mantles, a shelf that projects from a wall above a fireplace.

See source for pictures of mantle clocks with and without handles.

It’s like six dings at eleven o’clock. I can set it to six o’clock to match but then it isn’t six o’clock. Must I unplug it and wait? What should I do?

Try stopping it when it dings. But be sure to count the dings. Then start it back up when the dings will be right. Like if if dings 6 times stop the clock and then start it back up at 6 o’clock. Hope this helps

For each other or for another couple?

For your hubbie – Think like it was Christmas. Does he like DVD’s, Music, Dogs, racing, Mexican wrestling. Just think of what he likes. It doesn’t have to be practical, but something slightly romantic might help (Not with mine, I know what to get him…DVDs, as always.) Or maybe you could get each other the same gift – such as a night out that you usually couldn’t afford. Go to a nice resturant (for me – I simply demand that I be seated before they take my order!!!) and a show. Go see a comedy show or even just a movie or anything else you might be into.

For another couple? – Anything for the home, since they are probably still settling in to a new home. Maybe a nice framed picture of them together if you have one that they don’t have (good snapshots are sometimes the best.) Gift certificates to resturants so they can spend an evening out together. Maybe throw in some more gift certificates for the local theater so they can make it a night.

Stunning Antique French Brass Clock Set by A. D. Mougin

~ French – Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully working condition ~~

A very decorative and nicely sized antique French clock set. It is very well modelled in brass, in the Louis XVI style, classically architectural and decorated with flowing foliage and flowers. The front of the clock is fretted which allows a glimpse of the pendulum swinging inside the case. Candelabra have matching bases and urns and have four branch candelabra modelled as entwined foliage.

The dial is enamel on copper with delicate decoration to the centre. It is complete with the original blued steel hands.

The A D Mougin French movement is of the highest quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully dismantled, cleaned, inspected and tested by our clockmaker. Pendulum and bell are replacements. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some minor wear to the surface in places. Candelabra arms are slightly distorted and one arm has a minor break in one place and there is a small crack in one urn. The dial is also in excellent condition with a faint hairline below the 12 o’clock but with no chips or scratches.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

What you see is about 25% of the completed clock movement in terms of parts count, about 2000 of a total of 8000 parts. This project has been in construction for about 1.5 years and has another 2 to go. Much of the most difficult subassemblies are done as the going train contained a large amount of novel mechanical concepts: dual remontoire mediated by differential, dual escape wheels, compound fly fans, compound going barrels. The going train contains nearly 60 wheels. All pivots in the going train are jewelled in chatons. The rest of the pivots will have jewelled pivots for a total of 450 jewelled pivots (exception being the going barrels because of the large weight, these will be in caged roller bearings) . All ferrous parts are stainless steel and all brass will eventually be plated in two tones of gold.

This project was conceived in 2003 and will be completed in 2011 or 2012. We are not trying to make the most complicated clock, there are many in the last 200 years that beat this project by a wide margin, but we hope to make a mark in the area of fascination in terms of movement. Also the quality of fabrication will be next to none. You can follow the project on my web site: www.my-time-machines.net. or email me at: mfrank1@rcn.com
