Hi, – Metamec were never expensive clocks, and served the mass market. Trade cost prices used to be roughly £5 to £15 at most, and they sold (retail) for slightly less than twice those cost prices.

I’ve never heard that any Metamecs have become "collectible" so can’t see yours making a lot of money, – sorry.( But I could be wrong..)

My instinct would be to put a reserve of about £3…

the best way i found to search for a certian item would be on ask .com if you no the maker it would narrow your search have you tried simply typing german antique clocks and then carrying on from there?

I would take it to a professional appraiser and ask what he/she says first, but I have been watching Antiques Roadshow for many years and it seems to me that they always tell people NOT to polish their metal antiques because dealers and collectors really like the patina.

~ French – Circa 1870 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A fine quality and very large antique French clock set, beautifully made in finely gilded bronze/brass and featuring the Greek goddess Athena. The original heavy gild is in excellent condition, clean and bright. It is Classical Louis XVI in style, the clock case is supported on a break front base on a single short column with ornate lions to each side providing additional support. Lions are beautifully modelled, holding banners in their mouths which are draped across the front of the clock. There are also laurel swags and wreaths, a symbol of victory. The top of the clock has a large and elaborate scroll form with a scallop shell niche upon which stands Athena, goddess of war and wisdom. She is classically modelled wearing full armour and holding shield and spear. Candelabra are of conforming style with elaborate 6 branches, three at one height and 3 slightly lower height.

The dial is also gilded bronze, mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches.

The French movement is of the highest quality and features rack striking and pin-pallet escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding on the high spots, some very minor discolouration or tarnish. Candelabra are slightly distorted. One candelabra base is slightly twisted but this appears to be from new. The dial is also excellent with just some very minor chipping around the cartouches, no major scratches or cracks.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

A large and beautiful antique French gilt brass clock set with exquisitely decorated Sevres style porcelain panels and dial. The style is Rococo, waisted key hole shape decorated with elaborate ‘c’ scrolls and floral swags. The clock has a porcelain dial featuring a cherub with a basket of flowers. Beneath this is a delicately painted scene of a young couple, he serenades her with a flute. To the top of the clock is an urn painted with a country scene. Candelabra have matching bases above which is a porcelain urn. These are painted with individual scenes of the young man and the young lady. Candelabra are 5 light and are modelled as entwined foliage.

The back door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of the highest quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully dismantled, cleaned, inspected, re-assembled and tested by our clockmaker who has also replaced the missing pendulum. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish to the original gilding and there are no losses. Porcelain is also excellent, no chips to the dial or panels. One candelabra urn has a light crack near the top and the other has evidence of an old repair. Candelabra arms are slightly distorted. The displays beautifully as you can see below!
