Welcome to the mantle clock vault. A place where mantel clocks are reviewed, appreciated and discussed. Video posts are my favorite because we can all take a look at people disecting or constructing clockworks or simply looking at awesome antiques. Clocks are my favorite type of art and you’ll find lots of styles reviewed here.

Here is my list of favorites from over the past couple of years.

mantle clocks

The Hermle Queensway mantel clock is a modern classic. It is a reproduction of an antique and you won’t find a clock case like it anywhere else.

The Loricron 1159-K mantle clock looks sorta like a birdhouse or a church. It’s unique design has always been my favorite. Plus I love pendulum clocks.

carriage clocks

My absolute favorite is the David Peterson DP/BFC mechanical carriage clock because of it’s smooth elegance. When you think of Carriage Clocks you think of 24K gold plated brass, glass bezel and pure elegance and the David Peterson Company does that superbly.

anniversary clocks

Lots of companies make anniversary clocks but the top dog for me is the Loricron 9539-W. I like Westminster chime clocks and this not only has that buy has gold plated detail work and simple design that stands out to me personally.

grandfather clocks

When you talk about longcase grandfather clocks most people think of companies other than Hermle but I think their innovative design seperates them from the pack. The Jamestown by Hermle is a perfect example and it can come in their patented auto wind feature which is awesome.

skeleton clocks

I love seeing clock movements in action. My favorite skeleton clocks are by Hermle, particularly the Bridgewater model beause of it’s Greek like columns. Very unique and showcases the clock movement beautifully.

I have a chiming wall clock that rings 11 rings at 12:00 and 12 rings at 1:00..What is its problem?

First it rang a little early, then the clock repair guy turned a screw in its belly in order to make it ring on time, now I notice this…It is a Seth Thomas 1502 if that helps any. I have another one similar to it but with different "guts".

Your chime timing is out of sync with the main movement. Perhaps the screw was turned a little far in the wrong direction. Take it back to the repair guy. It sounds like he made a simple mistake.

Atomic wall clocks with precise hand movement?

I’m looking for wall clocks with a WWV radio reciever that have precise movement of their hands. In other words, at 12:11:30, the minute hand should be half-way between minutes 11 and 12. Most of the ultra-cheap atomic wall clocks have haphazard movement of the hands.

What brands will give high-quality movement for the hour, minute, and second hands?

The digital displays are better for what you want, try here, I buy movements for "Tide Clocks" that I build from here, reg. movements won’t work ( a lunar day is 24 hrs, 50 minutes), my clocks are on many boats and keeping the captains from running aground.

I have an antique vienna wall clock trying to find out type and value. Looks familure to gustav becker clocks. Mantle piece on top has a distinctive lians head (circle) protruding in center of wood plus it has a picture of what looks like a nun or a biblical woomen in center of primary peak (in Mantle) I estimate that it is from 1880-1900 time frame. Anyone heard of such design? or know of anyone who may, can send picture.

Does anyone know anything about Kundo CLocks of Germany?

I’m looking for information on the Kundo clock, its an anniversary clock not sure of the date. It has roman numerals on the face and what appears to be an ivory back ground. Its also a smaller anniversary clock..it also has the names on the back that I think read kenible and obergfel Im having trouble making that out..
I know its a very old clock.
